Private tutoring and one-to-one anxiety management sessions
About me
Kate Gummett (BEd, MEd)
After completing a 4 year Bachelor of Education in Literacy, Numeracy and Special Educational Needs at MMU, I worked in both mainstream and special schools as a classroom teacher for 7 years.
Following the birth of my own child, I decided to go back to ‘school’ and completed a Certificate in Psychology at Derby University, followed by a Masters Degree in the Psychology of Education at Manchester University.
I have spent the last 2 years working as a Behaviour Coach to 9 schools (supporting over 35 teachers), who were participating in a Randomised Control Trial to investigate the effectiveness of an initiative called the Good Behaviour Game. This role involved group and 1:1 teacher training, providing ongoing support for schools in regard to behaviour management as well as coaching the teachers and allowing opportunities to reflect on their practice.
Being a Parent Governor for the last 3 years has kept me abreast of the recent changes to the curriculum, whilst giving me a deeper understanding of the pressures faced by school leadership.
Recently I attended a course on Child and Adolescent Mental Health at Derby University. This focused on ways in which mental health issues can be identified, as well as specific issues such as dealing with Autism in the classroom; understanding anxiety and depression; and looking at reasons why children self-harm and what support can be given. I have also achieved a Diploma in Mindfulness for Children and am currently working to attain a Diploma in Child Counselling.
I am based in South Manchester (in the North West of England), but open to engagements further afield or via video calling – please get in touch to discuss.
