“Thanks for today. What an amazing session. You really got through to him at a level he understood. He has actually used the strategies you gave him a couple of times tonight and agrees they have helped him. He is especially keen on the worry jar which has now got new worries in and others taken out. So looking forward to next week. Thank you xx” – LH

“Thank you so much Kate. I can’t believe the difference 4 hours has made to the whole family through your amazing work with [our daughter]. We all need you in our lives! Thank you xxx” – JC

“Just wanted to say a big thanks to Kate – my teenage daughter has suffered with anxiety which is exasperated by pressure at school. She is reluctant like any other teen to seek help however she met Kate “informally” and immediately took to her. Kate got her measure from session 1, pitched at just the right level with solution focused exploration of triggers and coping strategies we have had 0 panic attacks since her first meeting. My girl is even helping her friend by passing on some of what she has learned. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Kate and want to say thank you; you are making a difference to our lives xx” – RA

“My daughter has been seeing Kate only for a short time and the changes are remarkable. We see Kate for tutoring and for help with anxiety. It’s great that we have seen an instant improvement with maths but more importantly are the results with regards to anxiety, no more tummy aches or feeling sick in the mornings, for us this is a huge step forward. Kate has explained to us as a family the causes and effects of anxiety which is helping us to help and understand what our daughter is going through, and this is invaluable to us as parents. Kate is a lovely gentle teacher and my daughter has been comfortable to be left with her from the beginning (something I thought would take a while to work towards). I would highly recommend Kate as a tutor but more importantly for the work she does regarding anxiety and helping our daughter to feel confident to try anything. We are so happy with Kate and the progress she has made with our daughter.” – LB

About me

Kate Gummett (BEd, MEd)Kite Consultancy

After completing a 4 year Bachelor of Education in Literacy, Numeracy and Special Educational Needs at MMU, I worked in both mainstream and special schools as a classroom teacher for 7 years.

Following the birth of my own child, I decided to go back to ‘school’ and completed a Certificate in Psychology at Derby University, followed by a Masters Degree in the Psychology of Education at Manchester University.

I have spent the last 2 years working as a Behaviour Coach to 9 schools (supporting over 35 teachers), who were participating in a Randomised Control Trial to investigate the effectiveness of an initiative called the Good Behaviour Game.  This role involved group and 1:1 teacher training, providing ongoing support for schools in regard to behaviour management as well as coaching the teachers and allowing opportunities to reflect on their practice.

Being a Parent Governor for the last 3 years has kept me abreast of the recent changes to the curriculum, whilst giving me a deeper understanding of the pressures faced by school leadership.

Recently I attended a course on Child and Adolescent Mental Health at Derby University.  This focused on ways in which mental health issues can be identified, as well as specific issues such as dealing with Autism in the classroom; understanding anxiety and depression; and looking at reasons why children self-harm and what support can be given.  I have also achieved a Diploma in Mindfulness for Children and am currently working to attain a Diploma in Child Counselling.

I am based in South Manchester (in the North West of England), but open to engagements further afield or via video calling – please get in touch to discuss.
